Imu isn't just powerful because of overwhelming physical strength. The combination of supernatural abilities, survivability, Domi Reversi, control over other powerful figures, centuries of experience, and knowledge of the Void Century makes Imu an entirely different kind of threat. Right now, I would put Imu at the absolute top of the One Piece verse, with only Joy Boy having a serious case for being comparable.
1. Imu Is Far Beyond Normal Yonko Level
The biggest evidence comes from the Elbaf conflict, where Imu has been able to contend with Gear 5 Luffy while displaying abilities that go far beyond the usual Haki and Devil Fruit battles. Luffy has already reached a ridiculous level of power, yet Imu's presence still makes him look seriously outmatched when Imu gets serious.
That's why comparisons with Kaido, Big Mom, or even current Shanks are becoming increasingly difficult. These characters are monsters in their own right, but Imu doesn't feel like another monster standing on the same mountain. My current scaling would be Top Yonko → Legendary Top Tiers → Imu/Joy Boy. The exact gap remains unknown, but Imu appears to have moved beyond conventional Yonko scaling.
2. Domi Reversi Makes Imu Even More Dangerous
This is where Imu becomes especially terrifying. Domi Reversi doesn't appear to be simply another ability designed to make Imu hit harder. Instead, it can affect or manipulate targets in a way that potentially overrides their condition and turns their own existence against them.
That's an enormous advantage in a one-on-one battle. Most One Piece fights eventually come down to Haki, physical strength, endurance, or Devil Fruit abilities. Imu potentially brings an entirely different win condition into the equation. It's basically the power-scaling equivalent of showing up to a boxing match and discovering your opponent brought the rulebook too.
3. Imu's Survivability and Arsenal Are Ridiculous
Another huge mystery is Imu's apparent immortality or regeneration. The story has repeatedly shown Imu surviving situations that should be devastating to ordinary characters, while the Gorosei's strange regeneration and connection to Imu have added another layer to the mystery. However, I wouldn't say Imu is completely immortal as a confirmed fact because the manga hasn't explained everything yet.
What we can say is that Imu possesses far more than raw physical power. Powerful supernatural abilities, transformations, extreme survivability, Domi Reversi, the ability to empower or control other World Government figures, and centuries of experience all come together. That's what makes Imu scarier than someone like Kaido: Imu has multiple ways to win.
4. Imu vs Joy Boy Is the Real Endgame Comparison
This is easily the most interesting part of the entire power discussion. The story has increasingly framed Joy Boy and Imu as opposing forces at the highest possible level. Their conflict isn't simply about two powerful characters fighting; it represents a battle between forces that have shaped the One Piece world for centuries.
Joy Boy's Haki remains one of the most absurd displays we've seen, while Luffy's connection to Joy Boy continues becoming more important. Because of that, I wouldn't confidently say Imu > Joy Boy yet. There simply isn't enough information to make that conclusion definitive. If anything, the story seems deliberately determined to keep these two at the top of the mystery box.
5. So, How Strong Is Imu Right Now?
My current ranking is straightforward: Imu ≈ Prime Joy Boy > everyone else. I would place the strongest legendary characters below them, followed by the highest-level Yonko. The exact distance between these tiers is still debatable, but Imu's portrayal increasingly makes it difficult to place them alongside ordinary Yonko-level fighters.
Current Luffy is obviously getting closer to that level, but the fact that Imu can still make Gear 5 look seriously outmatched tells us there is another mountain waiting to be climbed. And honestly, that's exactly what I want from the final villain. Imu shouldn't feel like just another powerful pirate. Imu should feel like the reason the entire world has been terrified for centuries.
Final Thoughts: Imu May Be the True Peak of One Piece
At this point, I think Imu is operating in a completely different category from the traditional Yonko. The combination of raw power, hax, survivability, control, experience, and knowledge makes Imu arguably the most dangerous character we've encountered in the entire series.
But I'm still keeping one character beside them: Joy Boy. Until Oda finally reveals the full extent of their powers and the truth behind their ancient conflict, I don't think we can definitively put one above the other. For now, Imu ≈ Prime Joy Boy is the safest—and most exciting—scaling. And if that's really where One Piece is heading, the final battle is going to make every previous power-scaling argument look like child's play.
